Danube Cruise 2012

A few years back, a friend of mine (and fellow framebuilder) launched a revolutionary concept for a European cycling tour. Instead of booking hotel rooms, Bill & Jan McCready of Santana Cycles charter an entire luxury cruise ship for a week-long party. On their “no-repacking” vacations the cruise ship enables everyone to ride as many or few miles as they want. When I told Bill he was having too much fun, he invited Waterford to join Santana this summer to experience his favorite itinerary. I’ve spent considerable time on the Danube – especially in Budapest, which is known a “the Paris of the East”. You’ll find it fascinating and quite civilized. Central Europe has remained relatively undiscovered among American cyclists, but the reports we received mark it as an unbeatable experience. This cruise doesn’t just cater to cycling enthusiasts, even occasional and non-cyclists will enjoy each stop, the spacious and comfortable accomodations as well as the first class cuisine. With stays in Prague, Vienna, and Budapest, you’ll enjoy three of the great cities not just of Europe but in the entire world. |
My wife Debra and I have jumped at the chance co-host this event. Joining the four of us will be Ben & Marcie Serotta of Serotta. Because you’re a valued member of Waterford’s team, I’d like to invite you to join us for a once in a lifetime adventure on the legendary Blue Danube. A week with cycling, cruising, sightseeing and an experience you’ll never forget! |
This looks like a great tour. Do you do it every year. We are booked this year but would consider it in 2013. When do you schedule the 2012 tour? Also, can you get me more details on the trip?
Thanks
Chuck
PS. Looking at buying two Waterford travel bikes for me and my wife.

We’ve been aware of Santana’s tours for years, but it was only in mid-January when Bill McCready approached us about the joining his cruise. We started getting the word out in early February. I suppose it’s late in the seasonal cycle for luxury tours. We will see how it goes for this year, but I’m hopeful this can become an annual treat.

You’ll have a few more shots of the boat. His e-brochure has lots of details. Once you sign up, there’s more infrastructure such as a memory book so it’s easier to get to know the 150 people on this trip, how to travel with your bikes, what to expect during the day, and so on. These are ideas that can only come from someone who really has this kind of tour down. I understand the food will be first rate all the way.
In the mean time, let us see what we can do for you and your wife.
Thanks,
Richard
5 Comments Hi,
I am a happy owner (registered with you) of one of your frames (Gunnar) and very interested in the Danube trip for two couples but for 2013. Could you please send me more information as we need to plan in advance. If you are to have a cruise in 2013, about when do you think that it might occur ?

What a fabulous idea. I’ve also spent considerable time on the Danube – especially in Budapest–but never biked the area. This is my DREAM vacation with people who share my passion. And I even speak German!
Count me and husband in for 2013. He happily rides a steel Serotta.

The good news is that there will be a tour. The bad news is that it won’t be on the Danube. OK there is more good new – it’s down the Rhone, with the tour starting in Geneva and ending in Marseilles. More details to come!
