Choosing Your Waterford

What do you want to carry?

Because cargo is connected to the bike\'s structure, it has a bigger effect on handling than the same additional weight on the rider. That\'s because by bending ankles, knees, backs, necks, shoulders, elbows and wrists we almost unconsciously correct for the handling impact of our own weight.

Here is weight for a range of riding styles:

• For competition, nothing is carried since emergency assistance is provided by support facilities and vehicles.
• The the broad spectrum of riding - training, commuting, fun rides, light touring and credit card touring, loads stay below 20 pounds. The weight (up to 20 pounds) may be noticeable but once you\'re moving it has little impact on handling.
• For unsupported touring, the load has a significant effect on handling. In fact, weight carrying capacity is a major driving force behind the Adventure Cycle\'s design.

As important as the amount of weight is its loading. Handlebar bags have a significant impact handling, especially when compared with low-slung rear panniers. The longer the ride, the more critical this becomes.
